iPhone Bulletin Board

My Sunday School class heads up a "Bulletin Board Ministry" at church - meaning we are in charge of decorating the two main church bulletin board that aren't covered by another specific ministry. The main bulletin board is large and in a very high-traffic entrance, and our pastor made it clear that he wants some thought and creativity put into that one (meaning he doesn't want a bunch of butterflies and flowers thrown up there to call it good, as seen below).

Over the holidays, we had a generic Christmas theme that highlighted Luke 2:10. I knew it had to be changed out right after Christmas, so I started looking for ideas back in November. I came across this picture online (from here), and started really thinking on how it could be applied to a spiritual meaning:
I'm really happy with what we came up with. It was fun to think about and put together, and everyone has loved it. As we were finishing up the installation, kids were arriving for Awanas, and almost every single one who came through the door commented on how cool it was (most walked in and said "look, it's Angry Birds!).

Everything is not perfectly straight or put together, so don't look at it with a critical eye :) But several people showed up to help put it together and I think it turned out really cute! I intended on the little captions to not be hand-written, but there are only so many hours in the day.

  6. So sorry to just be seeing these questions - for some reason they never came to me in an email until the one today.

First of all, I just used google images to save each image. For example: I googled "iphone mail icon" and saved one that came up. I do realize this isn't the politically correct way to use these images, but I couldn't figure out another way.

Secondly, I do not remember each caption beside each icon, but I just thought of some little silly thing that had to do with each one. I will list a few that I do remember:

Messages icon: How long have you spent in conversation with Jesus today?

Weather icon: Have you thanked Jesus for the beautiful weather today?

Phone icon: Have you listened for God's voice today? He could have something important to tell you.

Angry Birds icon (or any game): Are you using your time wisely for God's glory?

Music/ipod icon: Is what you're listening to uplifting and positive?

Facebook icon: Does your public image reflect a Christ-centered life?

And there are endless possibilities. This was on a main bulletin board in our church and I tried to use captions that talked about things our paster had preached on recently or things he generally touches on in many sermons often. I can't remember every one specifically but if you get stumped or need help with a caption I'd be happy to help you figure one out, just let me know!

  7. This is fabulous! I love tis idea. I was just put in charge of our bulletin board. Since it is just me in charge I would love to know if you would kindly share your additional sayings you had next to each icon. (shamelessly asking to save some time :) ) Thanks so much, Melanie
